Circle to a Line from Eight Chain Thru

Call is Circle to a Line

Start from Eight Chain Thru

Instructions

Each group of the two facing couples first dances a Circle Left Halfway. The dancer on the left of the center couple becomes the dancer on the left side of the couple that is now facing the formation. This dancer now releases his left hand connection and slides sideways to the left. He becomes the end dancer on the left side of his one-faced line. This line faces the other line formed by the other four dancers. All other hand positions are maintained. The other dancers continue their circular movement and gradually roll the circle into a one-faced line. The last dancer replaces this rolling movement with a forward turn to the left under an arch formed with the arm of the adjacent dancer, similar to a California Twirl. The dancers perform the turn under the arm arch by raising their joined hands to form an arch. Some callers call out who releases the hand connection (Head Man Break and Make a Line). This assistance is optional; if used, it applies to the outer left dancer after Circle Left Halfway. It is helpful if a sighted dancer announces that one is center before the figure is performed.

This definition describes the correct way in which Circle to a Line should be performed.
